YATESVILLE LAKE ROAD ‘MICROSURFACE’ WORK STARTS SOON

LAWRENCE COUNTY (Monday, October 1, 2018) — KY 3215, Yatesville Lake Road, will have a microsurface applied to the pavement from the intersection with KY 32 to the end of state maintenance, distance of 2.61 miles.

Microsurfacing Contractors of Bridgeton, Missouri, were awarded the low-bid contract in the amount of $132,335.39. The work is weather dependent; i.e., the surface cannot be applied during any type of precipitation. Completion date for the contract is November 15. However, if there is no rain once the contractor begins work, the process should take two to three days to finish.

The microsurfacing process protects and seals the pavement from weather. A low-cost way to increase surface friction, microsurfacing also addresses pavement rutting.

The material used is a mixture of polymer modified asphalt and dense graded fine crush rock material. It is applied in a spreadable slurry from a machine that mixes and spreads the material simultaneously. The slurry is applied evenly across the pavement in a semi-liquid state with an attached spreader box followed by a double strike-off blade for leveling.

The process is designed to carry normal traffic within one hour after application.
