Power outages affect 2,000 homes in East Ky

Kentucky Power employees and contractors are responding to hazards, outages and other emergencies as they are reported. Crews from less affected Kentucky Power areas are being brought in to assist in harder hit areas, mainly in the Ashland District. Nearly 125 workers are assigned to address outages in the Ashland District

A strong cold front with wind gusts up to 53 miles an hour moved through eastern Kentucky on Saturday, causing trees and limbs to fall on power lines. More than 100 separate outages were reported at the height of the wind storm, interrupting service to as many as 4,000 customers.

Storm Response Efforts

Kentucky Power employees and contractors are responding to hazards, outages and other emergencies as they are reported. Crews from less affected Kentucky Power areas are being brought in to assist in harder hit areas, mainly in the Ashland District. Nearly 125 workers are assigned to address outages in the Ashland District, which includes Olive Hill where many outages are reported.

Outages

As of 9:45 a.m., about 2,000 of 169,700 customers were without service, mainly in Boyd, Carter, Lawrence and Leslie counties. Scattered outages of fewer than 100 customers also were reported in other counties. Most customers should see power restored today but a few outages could take until Monday to be addressed.

A snapshot view of current outages affecting 100 customers or more is available anytime at www.kentuckypower.com.  Go to the Outages and Problems section of the site and click “View Outage Map.” Customers can report outages online or to our Customer Solutions Center at 1-800-572-1113.
