The wife of a Louisa physician pleaded guilty on Tuesday, March 1, in U.S. Court in Ashland, KY., to an attempted federal tax evasion charge, in exchange for having two other same charges dropped, according to federal court records.
Tammie Carroll Klein, 66, of Louisa, was the office manager and bookkeeper for her husband, Dr. Jeremy Carl Klein, involving two of his businesses; Family Practice of Louisa; and Recovery of Louisa, according to the federal prosecutors.
Federal court records show Tammie Klein was in charge of payroll, payroll taxes, paying the bills and posting the insurance checks.
In 2015, 2016 and 2017, federal prosecutors said Tammie Klein under-reported the taxes for the businesses by $400,870 to the feds, court records show.
Payments were made by Tammie Klein in 2013, 2015, 2016 and 2017; however no payments were made in 2014 or 2018, according to the records.
In 2013 and 2018, no tax returns were filed at all by Tammie Klein, according to the federal indictment.
The federal indictment states that during the three years of 2015-17, Tammie Klein paid out a total of $47,500 in taxes. In reality, the amount in those three years was $448,370.
The charge to which Tammie Klein pleaded guilty relates to the 2015 tax year, where court records showed Tammie Klein reported that she and her husband were only obligated to $30,000, while her actual taxes due were worth $147,884.
Tammie Klein is scheduled for sentencing on Monday, June 13, 2022, in U.S. District Court in Ashland, KY., where she faces up to five years in federal prison and up to $250,000 in fines.
She should get time like Big Blue. They’re thieves.
