WAYNE COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT

June 8, 2017

Joshua Wesley CasdorphOn June 8, Wayne County Sheriff Rick Thompson announced an arrest made by the US Marshals Cuffed Task Force of Joshua Wesley Casdorph, 35, of Fort Gay, WV following an investigation by a Wayne County Deputy Sheriff. Thompson said that on May 23 a WCSD Deputy responded to a call from Norfolk Southern Police stating several items had been stolen from their Prichard, WV. Yard. The Norfolk Southern officer gave description of the items which were valued at over $1,000.

Following a lead provided by anonymous caller that items similar in description were trying to be sold at a local bar in Fort Gay; the deputy followed up and found that the items were those belonging to the NS Railroad. After questioning the person attempting to sell the items, the name of Casdorph was given as the person that was in possession of the stolen items. When the officer caught up with the suspect, he advised the officer that he was aware that the items had been stolen and gave the officer the location of the stolen property.

Sheriff Thompson stated that after the investigation was complete, a Wayne County Magistrate issued a felony warrant for Casdorph for transferring and receiving stolen property. Sheriff Thompson complimented the deputy for the quick response and diligence to recover the stolen property. Sheriff Thompson said “This is a great example of the effectiveness of the Sheriff’s Department.” In light of the nearly three dozen felony drug arrests made by his department, it shows that criminal activity in any capacity will not be tolerated.

Casdorph was taken to Western Regional Jail and is awaiting arraignment.

For more information, contact WCSD at 304-272-6381 or Sheriff Thompson at 304-544-1812
