FLOODING, WATER LEAKS IN FT. GAY

Some members of the The Fort Gay Fire Dept were on the scene yesterday at the building formally known as Citgo and Joe’s pizza for hose testing, not for contamination testing…

Members of The Fort Gay Fire Dept was on the scene yesterday at the building formally known as Citgo and Joe’s pizza for water line testing.

OOPS!

My name is Joseph Bowen. I am the Chief of the Fort Gay Volunteer Fire Department. The FGVFD was not “on scene” at the old Citgo station for any type of water contamination emergency. The FGVFD was there having our annual hose testing performed as required by the West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office. The old Citgo location was chosen due to the length of the parking lot and the over head canopy due to the rain. The boil water issue and the FGVFD hose testing are not related in any way. I have been in contact with Matheny’s about performing this hose test for a couple of months. Matheny’s from Kenova was used to perform the hose test. I ask that you retract and reprint the story with the correct information. Thank you.

Another news source reported the water was being completely contaminated due to septic overflow.

Mayor Joetta Hatfield has disputed the claims on her facebook page:

“This is not the case, it’s a simple boil advisory,” Hatfield wrote.  “Despite the continuous issues with the water boil advisories. If you have to boil water let it boil at least one minute before using. “

The floods have also caused rock slides, this morning on Court St. near Exxon a boulder was partially in the road blocking traffic.

The floods have also caused rock slides, this morning on Court St. near Exxon a boulder was partially in the road blocking traffic. West Virginia Department of Highways was working on it early and had the road reopened quickly and the rest of the boulder is on the shoulder of the highway.

This from mayor Hatfield on the water problems in the city:

“…Attention FG Water Customers from race track up to Mill Creek….Water line break & we have been working to fix since last night. I will post approximate time of restoration. Sorry for the inconvenience.   –Mayor Hatfield…”

The Ft. Gay Fire dept. was on the scene of flooding in the city with their pumper trucks testing hoses according to chief joe Bowen.
