Eagle Ridge Golf League News
What a night for Dave Wallen. He shot lights out, tied the league record for lowest net score, and the league missed the rain
When I arrived at the course on Tuesday last, I drove through the pouring rain. Once at the golf course, the rain was only sprinkling. After hitting some balls from the driving range, through on and off sprinkles, hearing the thunder in the background, and not feeling particularly well, I decided not to play. Perhaps had I played, I may have collected some of that magic dust that Dave found.
For those who did play, Tuesday turned out to be a great night for golf. After the rain subsided, the temperature ended up perfect, refreshing compared to the afternoon heat, and the course was just soft enough to play comfortably. There was no more rain or thunder.
Tuesday, Dave Wallen experienced an out of body experience. For his gross score, he shot an even-par 36, and for his net score, after applying his handicap of 10, he had a net 26, and that tied the league record for the lowest net score. Dave started out with a bang and never took his foot off the gas. He birdied three of the first five holes. Playing in a threesome, Dave and his two playing partners all drove the par 4 hole number 9. Dave two-putted for a birdie while his other playing partners, Laine Hughes and Tyler Brewer, both three-putted. Dave followed the birdie on nine with back to back birdies on holes 12 and 13. On hole number 12. Dave chipped the ball in the hole from off the green, and on 13 he hit a jaw-dropping second shot for a kick-in birdie.
There was a prize of golf balls given to the team that scored the losest score. Of course, the first prize was picked up by the crew of Dave Wallen, Laine Hughes, and Tyler Brewer who collectively shot a gross score of 32. Wallen’s team beat the others by 4-shots. I believe that the other players on Dave’s team should have given him all the golf balls.
