INEZ, Ky. (WYMT) – Voters decided not to formally dissolve the City of Inez.
121 people voted yes, while 49 people voted no.
As statewide races were decided in Kentucky this Election Day, voters in the City of Inez had another pressing decision to make – whether or not to formally dissolve the city.
The petition, brought by a former city commissioner, argued that the services provided by the city are not worth the cost to taxpayers. These services include trash pickup, snow plowing and street-cleaning.
Officials such as City Commissioner Dennis Hall say these services are too crucial to give up.
“We’ve talked to some of the county officials and they said that they couldn’t afford to do what we do,” Hall said. “So I believe they would lose a lot of services. A lot of them don’t see it but if they got out and walked in our shoes they would see what they do.”
Voters were also concerned about how the decision will impact jobs. Some believed the lost jobs would have a far worse impact on people than the taxes to pay for services.
“Everybody I’ve talked to says it’s a bad idea to change it,” said Bonnie Fletcher, Jr., who is worried about the fate of the city. “It’s not going to help nothing. It’s going to hurt the worst. It’s going to take more jobs away and that’s what we need for this county.”
Inez is a small city and don’t have a lot but the people do stick together the only change it needs it the state do more to help just like Louisa the state don’t want to help it all for the big city’s
That Mayor is a sterling example of leadership in the 21st century. Dennis Hall should be mayor, I went to grade school with him at Auxier, and know his entire family, good people!
