KENOVA, WVA. —  #4 seed Fort Gay withstood a furious rally from #3 seed Wayne to take third place 39-34 in the Wayne County Boys middle school tournament Saturday afternoon at the Wonder Dome.

Gage Dawson, Hayden Pennington, Luke Fetherolf, Peyton Marcum, Gabe Vance, Evan Ball, Lamar Davis, Ben Clayton, Braxton Marcum, Wesley Weese, Tyler Salmons, Chevy Watts, Colton Austin, Kaleb Walker, David Dingess, Josh Hofmeister, Cole Jordan. Coaches Steve Stroud, Harvey Marcum, Roman Watts

In the second half the Pioneers got within two points late in the game but Fort Gay made enough free throws to keep the lead and salt away the game.

Fort Gay was led by Ben Clayton with 11 points, Tyler Salmons and Colton Austin tallied 7 points each, Chevy Watts netted 6 points, David Dingess 4 points, Josh Hofmeister 2 points, Luke Fetherolf and Braxton Marcum 1 point each.

Fort Gay went 9-21 from the charity stripe and hit 2 three pointers.

Wayne was led by Bryce Queen with 10 points, Isaiah Lowe netted 9 points, Issac Meddings tallied 8 points, Zane Adkins 6 points and Porter Brumfield 1 point.

Wayne hit 1 three pointer and went 13-20 from the free throw line.

Fort Gay 25 Buffalo 17 ( Tuesday )

In the opening game of the Wayne County Tournament #4 seed Fort Gay beat #5 seed Buffalo in a low scoring affair to advance to the Semifinals.

Chevy Watts led the Vikings with 10 points, David Dingess tallied 7 points, Tyler Salmons and Ben Clayton both hit three pointers for 3 points each, Colton Austin chipped in with 2 points.

Fort Gay hit 3 three pointers and went 2-12 from the foul line.

FGMS 8 5 6 6 = 25

Fort Gay and Crum were well represented on the Wayne Co. All Tournament and All County Team.

Ceredo-Kenova 45 Fort Gay 24 ( Thursday )

#1 seed Ceredo-Kenova who went undefeated in regular season play jumped out to a 19-9 halftime lead over the Vikings and then cruised to victory in the second half.

Fort Gay was led by Ben Clayton with 12 points including 3 three pointers, Colton Austin tallied 4 points, Luke Fetherolf hit a three pointer for 3 points, David Dingess and Cole Jordan 2 points each, Chevy Watts 1 point.

The Vikings hit 5 three pointers and went 3-6 from the foul line.
