Update from BLAINE Constable Daniel Castle who was at the scene

After an accident that left 2 children shot on Ramey Br. in the Blaine area around 4:45 p.m. yesterday evening, both are expected to come home within a few days according to their mother Melissa Fyffe.

Fyffe states that she had the pistol in her room and had accidently left it out. She stated that the two children were in the room for just a few seconds when she heard the gun go off.

According to the wounds it appears the two fell on the gun and one bullet went through both of them and lodged into one. The accident remains under investigation by the Kentucky State Police, no charges have been filed at this time and a press release has been requested but not received yet.

Update on the kids who got shot  – “Youngest is fine, flesh wound to the calf. The oldest is stable, but has a partial collapsed lung as the bullet grazed it and is still in his body. They put a chest tube & he is doing ok at this time.”

That’s where the confusion is they believe one could have shot the gun and it went through him and then to the other is one theory.  But it was an accident apparently with the two kids.  Supposedly no one else was in the room.

A KSP spokesman said this morning that the matter is still under investigation.

###

Lawrence County Emergency Management is reporting that at approximately 4:45 this afternoon they responded along with Blaine Volunteer Fire Department, Netcare Ambulance Lawrence Co., Lawrence County Sheriff’s office, Constable Daniel Castle, Kentucky State Police and Louisa Fire Department to a call of two young children shot at Ramey Branch near the Johnson County line.

Both of the children are stable at this time and being transported to Cabell Huntington Hospital by ground. Unable to utilize aeromedical due to weather conditions.

Excellent job by all and especially Lawrence County E-911 during this difficult call.

The incident is being investigated by LCSO and KSP and all additional information will come from those sources.

Updates will be put on as they are received.
