LC ‘blows out’ Phelps in baseball/softball opener to district tourney
Pond Creek, Ky. — Lawrence Co. Baseball/Softball opens 60th district tournament play with two mercy rule victories over Phelps. Both teams will advance to tonight’s Championship games and both secure spots in the 15th Region tournament that will get under way next week.
Lawrence Co. 19 Phelps 0 ( 5 innings ) 60th District Baseball
Lawrence Co. Seniors Brock Turner and Andrew Wheeler combined to throw the first perfect game in school history according to LC baseball coach Travis Feltner. The duo faced 15 batters striking out 9 and didn’t allow a base runner in the victory. The Dawgs broke it open in the 3rd inning when they pushed across 13 runs.
60th District baseball Championship game will be Pike Central vs Lawrence Co. at Belfry tonight first pitch will be 7:00.
The Dawgs swept the Hawks in the regular season on the road March 22nd 7-1 and at home 12-0 on March 23rd.
Lawrence Co. 14 Phelps 0 ( 5 innings ) 60th District Softball
Lawrence Co. Sophomore Ciana Bowen went the distance in the circle as she tossed a no hitter in the mercy shortened victory. Bowen struck out 11 and only allowed two base runners to reach.
60th District softball Championship game will be Belfry vs Lawrence Co. at Belfry first pitch will be tonight at 6:00
The Lady Dawgs swept the Lady Pirates in the regular season at home March 21st 3-0 and at Belfry April 19th 4-1.
