Tuck Everlasting The Musical Brings Life to Louisa

“Don’t be afraid of death; be afraid of an unlived life. You don’t have to live forever, you just have to live.” – Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt

UPIKE Theater students sang their way to Louisa’s Garden Theater today to kick off their rendition of Tuck Everlasting the Musical.

Tuck Everlasting is based on the novel by Natalie Babbitt. It tells the story of a family who drinks water from a magical spring and becomes immortal. When they encounter a young girl, who lives in their rural New England town, she becomes friends with one of the sons, who soon offers her the secret to everlasting life. She then has to decide if she wants to join her new friends in immortality, or if she will live out her normal life.

Over 200 students from The Millard School and Louisa East Elementary enjoyed popcorn, song, and dance at today’s performance. UPIKE Assistant Professor of Theatre and Mountain Movers Theater Company Artistic Director, Kim Willard says the performance went off without a hitch.

“I think it was a terrific day. This was our first ever student matinee and I think they were a wonderful audience.”

When Kim was asked the main takeaway of Tuck Everlasting, she smiled and said, “Just the magic of living and how valuable life is.”

The full two-hour musical will be open to the public on Thursday, October 24, and Friday, October 25, starting at 7:00 pm at the Garden Theater. General Admission is $8. Tickets will be available at the door, on Eventbrite, and at Masterpiece Café. For more information call Masterpiece Café at 606-252-0424.

One of my favorite books. So glad to know live theater is again in Louisa. “STAGE Shows” with known personality were on stage of Garden theater in 40`s and 50`s. Mother Maybelle and the Carter sisters for one.
