TREE LIGHTING, ACTIVITIES AND MUSIC PLANNED THIS SATURDAY…

The Lawrence County Tourism had a Regular Meeting on Monday November 18, 2024 at 5:30PM at the Fred M. Vinson Museum, 315 Madison Street, Louisa, Kentucky 41230. LC Tourism Commissioner Wes Kingsmore was in attendance along with Brenda Hardwick, Debbie Hill, Susie Chambers, Tom Bradley and Christy Moore.

TREE LIGHTING ACTIVITIES AND MUSIC

LC Tourism announced that the tree lighting activities will be on Saturday November 23, 2024 and will start at 6PM with the tree lighting at 7PM. Everyone is welcome and this is a Free Event in front of the Lawrence County Courthouse downtown Louisa. There will also be free music provided from 3PM to 8PM at the Garden Theatre.

BROCHURES

LC Tourism welcomed Johnda Barker to the Regular Meeting. Barker is making the brochures with help from the Tourism Board. There was discussion about pictures and events that the board wanted to have in the brochures.

PAULA NYE GRANT

The Tourism Commission discussed the Paula Nye Grant. This grant will help LC Tourism distribute bicycle helmets with elementary schools. This grant will provide $400 worth of helmets to the kids.

MINUTES

The October 2024 Minutes were passed with a Motion by Tom Bradley 2nd by Brenda Hardwick. None Opposed.

BILLBOARDS

The LC Tourism Commission discussed where to put a Lawrence County Tourism event on a billboard. It has to be 50 miles from your county according to state guidelines. Salyersville and Mountain Parkway are the 2 locations discussed. The LC Tourism Board made a motion to let Wes Kingsmore negotiate with Lamar sign company to have a billboard. Motion by Brenda Hardwick 2nd by Susie Chambers

TURKEY TROT 5K UPDATE

The Turkey Trot 5K will be on Thursday November 28, 2024 starting at 8AM. There has been 117 participants to register for the Turkey Trot already this year.

CHRISTMAS PARADE

The Christmas Parade will be on Saturday December 14, 2024 at 7PM. Line-up in the Louisa Plaza at 6PM and parade will start at 7PM.

FALLSBURG COMMUNITY CHRISTMAS

The Fallsburg Community Christmas will be on Tuesday December 17, 2024 from 6-8PM.

October meeting Minutes

Lawrence County Tourism Meeting Minutes October 28, 2024

The Lawrence County Tourism Commission met on Monday, October 28, 2024 at 5:30 pm at the Fred Vinson Tourism Office. Members in attendance were Chairman Wes Kingsmore, Christy Moore, Debbie Hill, and Susie Chambers. Johnda Barker and Kim Willard were also present.

The meeting was called to order by Wes and he also gave the opening prayer. The September minutes were read and approved with a motion by Christy and a second by Debbie. All in favor. The financial report showed a balance of $20,964.92. Susie made a motion to accept with a second by Tom. All in favor.
Kim Willard came to speak to us about changes happening at the theater. The 2025 season will be announced soon.

1. Under old business Johnda Barker gave us an update on what she has been working on for us. She presented us with a profit and loss statement which is very helpful. She will have a budget ready for us in January. She also showed us a sample of a brochure we’re going to have made. 2. With a motion by Tom and a second by Debbie we voted to spend up to $400 to buy bicycles to give away at the bike event. All in favor. 3. Our Rocktoberfest event is going well. As of our meeting there were only two rocks that had not been found.
4. The LC Heritage Harvest tour went well overall but the weather wasn’t cooperative.

Items under new business
1. There will be a Community Meeting on Thursday, Nov. 7 at 6 pm at the LC Library to discuss Christmas events happening in LC.
2. National Take a Hike Day is Sunday, Nov. 17. We voted with a motion by Tom and a second by Susie to spend up to $300 for supplies when we have the school classes come to hike the Storybook Trail. All in favor.
3. Our Annual Turkey Trot will be at 8 am on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 28th.
4. Fallsburg will be having a Christmas event for their community. We voted to donate up to $300 for this. Susie made the motion with a second by Tom. All in favor.
5. There will be a free Christmas dinner at the Community Center. Debbie made a motion to give $300 for this with a second by Susie. All in favor.

Our meeting was adjourned with a motion by Tom and a second by Susie. All in favor.

Our next regularly scheduled meeting will be on Monday, November 18 at 5:30 pm at the Fred Vinson Tourism Office.
