Bass’nDawgs fail to qualify for State Tourney

SCHS has 3 teams in top 15 out of 65

Morehead, Ky. — It just wasn’t meant to be on a really tough day at Cave Run lake last weekend for the defending Bass fishing State champions from Lawrence Co. Eric Price and Noah West. The duo along with 64 other boats competed in the Region 4 Bass fishing tournament to see who would qualify for the state tournament on May 12-13.

Area teams from Lawrence Co., Sheldon Clark and Johnson Central all made the trip to Cave Run on what some call ‘one of the toughest days they have been a part off ‘. It was cold, windy and raining, not a good combo, it was truly survive and advance.

Sixteen teams from Region 4 earned the right to move on from region to state. Sheldon Clark took three of those spots and Johnson Central with two boats will compete for a state championship.

For Lawrence Co. it was defending champions Eric Price and Noah West finishing in 31st and won’t have a chance to defend their title. Luke Cassell and Briyce Brooks, Hayden Stambaugh and Harley Davidson, Caleb Fletcher and Bradley Copley all caught fish but didn’t qualify.

For Sheldon Clark it was Braxton Maynard and Matt Messer finished 10th, Lafe Messer and Grant Marcum finished 12th, Keaton Meade and Cameron Dials finished 13th. All three teams will move on to state. Jacob Jude and Heath Maynard along with Nick Maynard and Jerrod Wright also caught fish but didn’t qualify.

For Johnson Central it was Cody Harless and Seth Jackson finishing 4th, Nick Castle and Morgan Pelphrey finishing 16th to qualify for state. David Tackett and Cameron Daniel did not qualify.

Lawrence Co. Fishing Coach Brandon Meddings, the innovator of Lawrence County High School Bass Fishing,  said he is ill today and will send comments soon.

COACH’S COMMENTS

“…Tough day on the water. Sadly, none of our teams qualified this year for the KHSAA state championship. Still though, very proud of these fine young men in Conner May, Brayden West, Caleb Fletcher, Bradley Copley, Noah West, Eric Price, Haden Stambaugh, Harley Davidson, Luke Cassell, Briyce Brooks.

“…And also, very very very thankful in a support group with boat captains Glen Rowe, Paul Arnette, John Pannell, Rick Staniford and Chris Wilson.

“…Enjoy some pics and videos from this weekend. Also, thanks to Alumni Michael Scaggs of the Campbellsville Tigers bass fishing team and Derek Null, who will be fishing for Morehead State next year, for visiting us at our host site Cave Run Lodging.”
