WELCH, WVA. — #13 Tolsia (4-3) put up a valiant fight against the #1 team in Class A Mount View ( 6-0 ) but lost a heartbreaker 6-0 on the road at Vic Nystrom Stadium Friday night.

#32 Paskell Doss returning one of his two interceptions at Mount View Friday night.

Both teams had trouble keeping their footing after heavy rain hit Welch Thursday night and Friday morning that left the field in really bad shape which slowed both teams down.

The two teams combined for under 100 yards in the first half as both teams were scoreless. The Golden Knights had the only real shot for points in the first half but Tolsia Senior Paskell Doss had an interception on the goal line with under a minute to go. Doss also stopped a Mount View drive with another pick in the first quarter.

#70 Kameron Holmes with the tackle vs Mount View.

In the third quarter Mount View put together the only drive of the game that produced points when Quarterback Jesse Rose found a wide open Terry Headen for a 15 yard touchdown with 5:21 to go in the third.

About halfway through the 4th quarter Tolsia mounted their best drive of the game behind two nice pass plays from Tanner Copley to Doss for 19 yards and another 10 yarder to Jesse Muncy both on third and long. The Rebels drove to the Golden Knight 15 yard line before turning the ball over on downs and allowed Mount View to run the clock out.

The Rebels lost Devon Crum in the first quarter due to injury and he did not return. Also lost Mason Mann to injury.

Tolsia will host Tyler Consolidated ( 3-3 ) for Homecoming next Friday night.

Mount View will travel to Tug Valley.

Tolsia Head Coach Eric Crum

COACH’S COMMENTS

“… Couldn’t ask for more from our defense,  they were very good. Offensively it was a struggle, we lost Devon Crum in the first quarter and that hurt. We didn’t block very well up front. We put the ball on the ground. The last drive I thought we had them on the ropes and we jump offsides and that put us behind the chains. We just can’t make mental mistakes against a good team and expect to overcome it.”

“… To say we are disappointed is an understatement but I’m so proud of our guys. They didn’t quit. Mount View has been putting up 40 to 50 points a game and we held them to 6. On the only touchdown of the game we blow a coverage and the player come right to the sideline and said he messed up. It was a mistake field night.”

“… Next week is a must win for our team. Tyler Consolidated is a good team and it will be a challenge for us.”
