Instructor Lee Hanner shows how to apply a tourniquet during the session while County Clerk Chris Jobe looks on

On Thursday November 21, 2019 the Lawrence County Extension Office, gave a certified course on how to stop the bleeding of a seriously injured person.

The instructor was Lee Hanners. He is a Clinical Lab Instructor and a full time EMS from

Extension Office employees Laura Maggard and Robin Workman

Ironton, OH. He is also a veteran.  We learned the ABC’s of Stop the Bleed. Alert 911, Identify the bleeding, and compress. We learned how to pack a wound, apply a tourniquet, and what is needed in a basic first aid kit.

Also, we were taught the proper methods to administer to a person who has been seriously injured. We learned essential items that one needs to have at all times in case of an emergency.  He highly recommends having a cat tourniquet available at all times. Anyone wanting information on this course or what to do can go to these websites:. Bleeding control.org. / STOPTHEBLEEDING.ORG.

Laura Maggard/Agriculture and Natural Resource County Extension Agent and Robin Workman/University of KY Program Assistant were there to assist as well. We were served a very nice dinner to enjoy while taking the class. Thank you to all who helped make this possible.
