IA man and woman from Louisa, were arrested Tuesday night after they tried to steal from the house of the woman’s son who had died just hours earlier that day in a motorcycle accident, along with a female passenger, in Boyd County.

Wendell Gibbs, 67, of Louisa, was charged with burglary and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Ruth E. Sparks, 65, of Louisa was charged with wanton endangerment and burglary.

Lawrence County deputies say they responded to home on Left Fork of Morgan’s Creek, which is about halfway between Louisa and Fallsburg, in regards about someone coming into a home and pointing a gun at a juvenile.

The sheriff deputies found the two at the home which is where Sparks’ son, James Lee Adams, lived, and who was killed earlier in the day in a motorcycle accident on U.S. 23 near the Marathon Refinery Plant.

During their investigation, deputies discovered Ruth Sparks went into the home and pointed a rifle at a juvenile.

The juvenile was able to get out of the home and call 911.

Ruth Sparks and Wendell Gibbs took multiple items from the home, including firearms.

Lawrence deputies asked Ruth Sparks where Wendell Gibbs was at and she told them he had left, but then Wendell Gibbs came out of the house.

Sparks told the deputies that Gibbs had the rifle. He denied having the firearm, but eventually told deputies where it was located.

Both Ruth Sparks and Wendell Gibbs were arrested by deputy Mason Keefer and were taken to the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center in Paintsville late Tuesday night. Ruth Sparks has since bonded out, while Wendell Gibbs remains lodged in the jail.
