SoccerDawgs ready for Postseason

Louisa, Ky. — This is the week the Lawrence Co. soccer team has been waiting on all year. The SoccerDawgs finished the regular season with a 13-2-2 record after beating Rowan Co. 2-1 at home late last week. That was the final tune-up before postseason play will begin on Wednesday night at Pikeville in the 58th District tournament. 

Lawrence Co. went 7-0 in District play this year and outscored their opponents 61-4. The Dawgs will play the winner of Shelby Valley/Pike Co. Central on Wednesday night at Pikeville. Gametime will be 8:00. The finals will be played Thursday night at 8:00. The Dawgs are the heavy favorites to win the District. 

Lawrence Co. lost only to Winfield, the best team out of West Virginia, and to Russell, the favorite to win the 16th region. The SoccerDawgs scored 93 goals during the regular season and allowed only 22. 

Victoria Clevenger led the team with 21 goals, Zayla Granillo was second with 18 , Kylie Maynard scored 16, Sarah Lycans had 10 even though she missed four games because of an injury, Jordan Stepp tallied 8 goals, Emily Webb had 4, Sisters Raegan and Adysan Crum 3 goals each, Maci Pollack, Scyler Bowens and Lydia Workman with 2 each and Makenzie Frazier, Kelly Davis, and Katelyn Pauley chipped in with 1 goal apiece. 

Maynard and Stepp led the SoccerDawgs in assist with 7 each, Webb had 6, Clevenger and Bowens 5 apiece, Lycans and Granillo 4 each, Davis, Hayleah Fletcher, Pollack and Sheree Hay had 2 each, Both Crum’s, Workman and Hannah Preece had one assist each during the regular season. 

Ally Moore and Andrea Salyers both spent time in net for Lawrence Co. Moore played in 14 games and allowed 17 goals. Salyers played in 9 games and allowed 5 goals.

COACH’S COMMENTS

“… We are playing well right and this is when you want to be. Postseason is on is, seems like the regular season has flew by.” We will have some good training sessions before the playoffs begin. The regular season was good for us to get ready and figure each other out.” We played some really good teams and seen some stuff that we need to correct and work on. Proud of the girls so far.”
