Prestonsburg, Ky After losing to Johnson Central in the last home game of the year Lawrence Co. got some payback with a 3-0 victory in the semifinals of the 15th Region Tournament Tuesday night at Stonecrest athletic complex.

#12 Senior Victoria Clevenger shown here in an earlier game had two goals vs Johnson Central in Region play.

Kylie Maynard found Victoria Clevenger for the only goal in a very intense first half to give the SoccerDawgs a 1-0 halftime lead. Bulldog goal keeper Ally Moore made a couple nice saves to keep the Golden Eagles off the board.

In the second half Maynard once again found Clevenger for a goal and Hayleah Fletcher would hit a sliding Emily Webb for the dagger.

Moore was outstanding in net all night as the Bulldogs would end the Johnson Central ( 14-5-1 ) season for the second straight year.

Lawrence Co. improves to 16-2-2 and will advance to the region championship on Thursday night vs Prestonsburg ( 16-2-3 ) who was a 7-2 winner over Pikeville in the second game of the night. The two teams played to a scoreless draw on August 24th at Stonecrest.

Kylie Maynard had two assists Tuesday night in Region play vs Johnson Central.
Bulldog Soccer Head Coach Kyle Snaitecki

COACH’S COMMENTS

“… The past two days we have worked very hard in training on our game plan coming into this match and a tremendous job to our team for going out and executing it perfectly.”

“… Three weeks ago losing to them on our home field, especially the way we did left a bitter taste in our mouth and we knew we didn’t want that to happen again. I told the girls come regionals we would be ready and that we were. Extremely proud of the girls and their efforts tonight. Focus and hard work played a huge part in what we were able to accomplish.”

“… Another great team effort and just again shows the complete system we have that we don’t just rely on one or two people. But to highlight a few. Ally Moore proved she is the best goalie in the region. Victoria Clevenger played very well up front creating and finishing both opportunities she had with the help of Zayla Granillo. Kylie Maynard led the force in the midfield that dominated play and she assisted 2 goals. Sarah Lycans absolutely shut down Molly Davis from JC who is arguably one of the best attacking players in the region. And lastly our defense as a whole earned that shutout. But, Madi Cassell and Adysan Crum played one of the best games of the whole season.”

“… We’re happy but not yet satisfied as we want to bring the regional title back to Louisa. Time to prepare for Thursday.”
