Kentucky State Police Post 14 Ashland Investigating Accidental Shooting Involving Juveniles

Ashland, Ky. (February 5, 2017) – The Kentucky State Police Post 14 Ashland is investigating an accidental shooting which occurred on Sunday, February 5, 2017 at approximately 103 pm.

The Kentucky State Police Post 14 was notified by Greenup County 911 of a possible accidental shooting involving juveniles.

Troopers responded to 3547 Hoods Run Road and discovered a 6 year-old of age female with a gunshot wound to the chest. Troopers Patrick Hamilton and Joshua Collett performed first aid until EMS arrived on scene. Juvenile was flown to Cabell Huntington Hospital where she is in critical, but stable condition.

During the course of the investigation evidence was obtained which supports the victim was accidentally shot when she and two other juveniles, 6 and 5 years of age, were playing and a firearm was discharged. Additional details surrounding the incident are currently not available for release.

The case remains under investigation by Detective Sam Lawson.
