Chandler Shepherd took his demotion in stride and fired a gem in Georgia.

Gwinnett, Ga — After spending a couple days on the Baltimore Orioles roster Louisa native Chandler Shepherd was sent back to Norfolk.  Instead of the demotion being a setback, the former Bulldog turned in his best outing of the year as the Tides ( 42-68 ) shutout the Stripers ( 65-45 ) 4-0 on Thursday night.

Shepherd went 6 and 1/3 innings allowing 3 hits, 1 walk and striking out 8 batters to pick up his first win of the 2019 campaign and for his effort he was named International League Pitcher of the Week on Monday afternoon.Shepherd was in the bullpen for the Orioles 8-5 road victory in San Diego. On Wednesday afternoon he was summoned back to pitch for Triple A Norfolk.

Why was he sent back to Norfolk? Can sommeone sports oriented explain this to those of us who may not understand? I mean this guy has devoted his life to the game, finally gets the call-up to the big leagues, and then before the ink is even dry from the press release he’s demoted and sent back to the minors??? Why not trip him on the way out and pelt him with rotten tomatoes while you’re at it?! My gosh talk about a setback and a moral breaker! This kid deserves to be in the majors, and he’s better than a lot them who are!
