The Lazer had the privilege of meeting Tucker Evans and his family in December 2018. Tucker had been diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia at the age of 2. His battle with ALL Cancer lasted 3 years and 3 months but finally he was able to ring the cancer free bell at the University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington, Ky. His family started the #TEAMTUCKER Foundation and held fundraisers and blood drives in the Louisa/Fort Gay Communities.
TUCKER GETTING TO RING THE CANCER FREE BELL!!
The Lazer reached out to Brittany Evans who had this to say about how Tucker is today and what we as a community can continue to do to fight against childhood cancer; “Tucker wasn’t considered cancer free until 2023. It’s 5 years after the end of treatment technically. He will continue to go yearly for bloodwork. “
“Through treatment it gets lonely for everyone. You must be secluded even from the closest of family and friends.  I would tell the family to make the best of every day, one day at a time.” Find a support system who can be patient and understanding.
Your lives will never be the same, but for us it has made us stronger, more compassionate and understanding.”
“Even though treatment is over, and we are moving along with life how we should, mentally cancer is always there, the fear and memories will never stop but finding that support system of families who know exactly what you are going through is also helpful. I will be there for anyone experiencing those worries, just to listen if need be.”
“Always donate to nonprofit research for pediatric cancer. Pediatric cancer only receives 4% funding compared to all cancer researchers. GOOD ORGANIZATIONS LIKE ALEX’S LEMONDADE STAND, SAINT BALDRICKS FOUNDATION ARE JUST TO A FEW.”
WIGS FOR KIDS when donating hair, they do not charge families for their wigs like other organizations.
“Tucker is 11 years old, and in the 5th grade. He is enjoying being with classmates and performing for the Main Street Players, he is currently practicing for two upcoming shows. We also added a beautiful little girl to our family and he’s a wonderful big brother and fun little brother. This was an awakening and challenge but through our faith in God we were able to beat this and have our healthy and happy boy.
A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL OF OUR COMMUNITY, FAMILY AND FRIENDS FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT!!
