Louisa Rotary met for its regular meeting on Thursday, July 20. The meeting began with the prayer, pledge of Allegiance and a four-way test.

After the opening ceremony two new members were welcomed by President Chris Jobe. Ann Hall and Bonnie Noakes both from Walmart, were welcomed by the entire rotary club.

Jobe also spoke about the yearly Rotary Auction coming up along with Septemberfest. Rotarians were busy filling up the volunteer sheets.

The speaker for this week was Caleb Woody, Caleb is a part of the Appalachian Service Project.

ASP is open all summer for volunteers of all ages (14 and up) and has 60 to 80 employees . College and adult groups migrate to Appalachia to make homes warmer, safer, and drier. They return home with volunteers who are stronger, wiser, and closer to God, Woody said.

Right now the group is staying at First Baptist Church in Louisa and have worked in Lawrence County, Wayne County and Martin County. Woody told the stories of a few projects and how thankful the families were to have a functioning home.

After a short explanation of becoming a ‘trail town’ by Mayor Harold Slone (SEE LAZER STORY HERE), the meeting was then adjourned for the week.
