Rose Devaney, 72, of Fort Gay, WV went home to be with the Lord on Monday, December 13, 2021.

Rose was born August 23, 1949 in Wayne County, WV to the late Pat and Ruby (Frasher) Hutchinson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Charles Devaney, Sr., infant daughter Rosemary Devaney, son Timmy Devaney, and brothers Carl Frasher and Ray Frasher.

Rose was a member of the First Church of Big Hurricane. She was a strong, sturdy Christian woman who loved and cared for her family and friends. She served her community with that same passion. She was a kind and loving woman who never met a stranger. Anybody that knew Rose called her mom or a genuine friend. She could light up a room with her smile and personality. The world is a little dimmer without her, but do not let that trouble you. She wouldn’t want that. She is with Charles, little Rose, and all the ones that have went before her, rejoicing with our Lord. She will be sorely missed by all.

Rose proudly and lovingly served her community for over 40 years. She was a member of Fort Gay Town Council, served as Fort Gay Town Recorder, and then Mayor of Fort Gay. She was a firefighter and an EMT for the Fort Gay Volunteer Fire Department. Rose was a member of the Lions Club of Fort Gay and served on the Board of Directors for Three Rivers Medical Center.

Surviving are her children Debbie Devaney Wellman, Chuck (Deby) Devaney, Thomas (Amy) Devaney, Edie Vanhorn, and Angie (Steve) Wechsler; grandchildren Brady, Tory, Chase, Caitlin, Dylan, Madison, Gavin, Tommy, Cadence, Aaron, Jared, Josie, Gabe, Joey, Karla, Brandy, Connie, Amanda, Allen, Timmy Jr., and Ladonna; great grandchildren Junior, Carter, Bennett, and baby Colter on the way and an additional 15 great grandchildren; and sisters Jenny Conner, Wanda Pauley, and Paige Morgan.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, December 17, 2021 at 2:00 PM at the Young Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Darin Fetherolf officiating. Burial will follow in Christian Cemetery. Friends may visit the family on Thursday, December 16, 2021 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Young Funeral Home.

Young Funeral Home has been entrusted with the care of Mrs. Devaney and her family.
