RISEabove and City of Louisa celebrating addition to park

RIBBON CUTTING CEREMONY

Where: Lockview Park
When: Friday, June 22, 2018 @ 6pm

The City of Louisa and RISEabove are excited to announce the third annual Louisa Hoops for HOPE Basketball Tournament. The event will be held at Lockview Park (by the city pool) on Friday, June 22nd through Sunday, June 24th.

Harold Slone, mayor of Louisa, and Matt Brown, Chairman of the board of RISEabove, have partnered together to offer a weekend of family fun, including three point/free throw contests and a men’s basketball tournament (Saturday & Sunday), and free swimming at the city pool. Also, there will be two guest speakers focusing on topics such as making good decisions, avoiding peer pressure, the dangers of drugs and alcohol use, and uplifting stories of recovery.

We fully understand that in order to provide better opportunities for the youth of our community, it takes a “team” approach. We want each of you in the community to join the team and be a part of the exciting things happening at the city park.

This year we are continuing renovations on the city basketball court and the playground with intentions of hosting other events here in the future. Year 1 resulted in a new fence, new basketball court, and new basketball goals. Last year resulted in an awesome observation deck and paid for the cost of a new piece of playground equipment. This year’s renovations will include lights for the park and will go towards putting a fence around the new piece of playground equipment geared toward the smaller kids.

Weekend event schedule:

Friday, June 22

6pm – Lockview Park ribbon cutting for new playground equipment with 3 point contest and free throw contest to follow.

7pm – Hoops for HOPE weekend kicks off with free throw contest.

7-9pm Free swim night sponsored by RISEabove Hunger at Louisa City Pool.

Donations accepted for RISEabove Hunger. Food and donations can be made at the pool.

Saturday, June 23

9am – Hoops for HOPE Men’s tournament kicks off.

Sunday, June 24

9am – Hoops for HOPE Men’s tournament continues.

Championship Game

Still time to join in. To volunteer or make donations for more park improvements contact Matt Brown @ 606.615.2872 or Mayor Harold Slone @ 606.638.4050. Donations will also be accepted at the event. #whynotLouisa
