Southern Coal Corporation reported hirings Friday

Phelps residents will reportedly have another option for employment, as the Southern Coal Corporation reported Friday it plans to reopen a mine and hire more than 100 employees.
Beech Creek Coal Company, an affiliate of Southern Coal Corporation, is opening a large surface mine near Phelps, according to a statement released by SCC. Equipment is being assembled and the hiring process is underway, the statement said.
Once the mine reaches its capacity and is fully staffed, it will employ 110 workers, producing approximately 500,000 tons of coal per year.
The statement said that, according to a representative with the company, the mine will remain operational well into the future.
