LOUISA, Ky. (September 25, 2018) – Thanks to significant state funding in the Commonwealth’s biennial highway construction plan, the deteriorating conditions of Spankem Branch Road will soon be addressed in a comprehensive manner.

Representative Jill York of Grayson secured $500,000 in the state road plan for the current fiscal year to get the project moving, providing significant improvements to a county road long beset by potholes and drainage issues that pose a significant danger to area residents. It is rare for state funding of this magnitude to be specifically allocated to county roads, highlighting the importance of this project to Lawrence County residents.

“Investing in infrastructure is critical to the well-being of our citizens and communities, and this is a project that is badly needed,” said Representative York. “This funding will put the asphalt right where it needs to be, as it is important for our rural roads to receive the funding and maintenance necessary to meet the needs of our folks. This project is vital to Lawrence County, and I was honored to work with fellow legislators, the Transportation Cabinet, and our local officials to get it done.”

York delivered a memorandum from the Lawrence County Fiscal Court to Frankfort on Tuesday, September 25, in order to get the project off the ground and moving as soon as possible.

York serves on the House Appropriations and Revenue Committee, the committee responsible for appropriating state dollars through the two-year budget cycle. She also serves as chairwoman of the Budget Review Subcommittee on Economic Development, Public Protection, Tourism and Energy.

$500k for spankem brach, which is actually Diamond ridge. Who ever thinks spending that much on Diamond Ridge needs to drive around a little more. Way more busy roads that need fixed besides Spankem Branch. Mismanagement by ignorance or someone who lives on that road has pull. Fix the roads that have way more traffic first. All the roads in LC are horrible. Who’s fault is it?

Spankem branch is not Diamond Ridge. Get your facts straight.
