REBELS WIN THIRD STRAIGHT, MOLLETTE SINKS 7 THREE POINTERS

FT GAY, W.VA —  Jacob Mollette poured in 28 points including 7 three pointers to lead Tolsia (5-2) to a 61-57 victory over Fairview ( KY ) Friday night at Rebel Arena.

The Rebels won their third straight despite some shaky free throw shooting down the stretch. 

Tolsia led 15-11 after one quarter and 34-28 at the break behind Mollette’s 4 three pointers.

In the third quarter the Rebels built a 9 point lead 50-43 going into the final stanza.

The Eagles wouldn’t go away and tied the score at 56 with one minute to go on a Noah King three pointer. Tolsia drew up a nice play after a timeout and Austin Salmons hit 1-2 FTS after drawing a foul.

But  King missed three straight free throws for Fairview with under a minute to go. Jesse Muncy hit 2 free throws to make it a three point game and Gavin Meadows hit 1-2 with 1 second left to set the final margin for the Rebels..

Muncy tallied 16 points, Rob Cantrell 8 points, Salmons 5 points, Meadows 3 points and Tyler Johnson 1 point.

Noah King and Garrett Greene led the Eagles with 17 points apiece.

THS hit 8 three pointers and went 6-13 from the charity stripe. FHS hit 5 three pointers and went 8-16 from the free throw line.

Tolsia 85 Sherman 47 ( Friday )

The Rebels made the long trip to Seth and jumped all over the Tide with a 29-6 lead after one quarter and a 50-11 lead at Halftime.

Tolsia came away with 23 steals in the contest.

Rob Cantrell scored 17 points in a road win over Sherman.

Austin Salmons led a trio of Rebels in double figures with 18 points, Rob Cantrell tallied 17 points and Jesse Muncy finished with 16 points, Jacob Mollette 8 points, Gavin Meadows Peyton Watts and Zane Sturgill 5 points each, Tyler Johnson and William Spaulding 4 points each, Blake Sturgell 2 points and Zack Ball 1 point.

THS hit 7 three pointers and went 14-19 from the free throw line.

SHS hit 1 three pointer and went 14-34 from the free throw line.

THS 29 21 22 13 = 85
SHS 6 8 15 18 = 47

Tolsia will be off until 2019 when they host sectional opponent Buffalo on Friday January 4th.

COACH’S COMMENTS

“… Down the stretch we played well, we didn’t shoot free throws very well and let them hang around be we closed it out. We are learning as a team to finish strong. Last year we had trouble doing that and lost some games we should have won.”

“… They (PLAYERS) are starting to understand we have to take care of business every night, whether we are playing Sherman or Huntington you have to come ready to play. We have to be competitive on a night in and night out basis. This week is tough with Christmas and trying to keep the kids focused on the task at hand. Was really proud of them tonight.”
