LOUISA, Ky. — Children and adults gathered to see the presentation of a variety of majestic birds given by The Liberty Nature Center of Somerset, KY.,  the leading wildlife rehabilitation and education center in Kentucky.

The Lawrence County Public Library presented “Raptor in the Park” on July 12 and the theme for this week of the Summer Reading Program is “The Great Outdoors” and the presentation by the Liberty Center was a highlight of the week.

The Liberty Center provides medical care to the birds as most of them are found sick or injured.

A team member of the Liberty Nature Center, Jose Herrera, commented that the program is not only about the birds, but the kids as well.

The children learned multiple fun facts about Hawks, Owls, and even Bald Eagles.

Emily Burke, Brooke Walker, Lincoln Rose, Caleb (last name unknown), and Kate Cecil are all volunteers for the library led by Samantha Penix and Deanna Farrix.

Whitnie Wolsey shows a true owl during the presentation.“I can only say great things about this internship and the program yesterday was amazing and I was thankful to be involved,” Emily Burke said.

Free lunch was also served by The Father Beiting Appalachian Mission Center (courtesy of the Summer Feeding Program) for anyone under the age of 18.
