Louisa, KY. — In a month that has seen almost every day with rain, the 9th Annual Walk for the Animals made it through their biggest fundraiser of the year. The walk took place Saturday, May 23, under cloudy skies, but the rain held off till the very end.

Four-legged walkers, along with their two-legged companions, made their way proudly around downtown Louisa, raising money for the Lawrence County Humane Society.

The event began in Main Street Park, where vendors were also set up, including Tupperware, Avon, Snuggles & Stitches, Sullivan University, Lawrence County 4-H, and more. Falling Acre Farms was also there, with a couple of their Huarizos, which are half Llamas, and half Alpacas.

Some dogs were dressed for the costume contest, some signed up for the best trick and best smile. A free inflatable attraction was available for the kids, and there were chances to win great prizes, including a $500 gift card from Big Sandy Superstore, and a 50″ big screen TV. Tickets were also sold on a ‘split the pot’ prize, and both a silent auction and Chinese auction were held. Free entertainment was provided by local artists, Chico & Luna, and Jodie Perkins.

Humane Society Treasurer, Leonika Allen, who helped start the Animal Shelter over 20 years ago, was presented a recognition award for her years of service and dedication.

All proceeds from the fundraiser will go to the Lawrence County Humane Society & Animal Shelter, who are in great financial need, especially during the past couple years, with increasing vet and medicine costs.

Kim Perry, President of the Lawrence County Humane Society said “We want to thank everyone who supported the Walk. Whether you made a donation, participated in the Walk, set up as a vendor, bought a raffle ticket, bid on an item, volunteered, or provided entertainment, it all helped to make the Walk a success, and is greatly appreciated. The Humane Society is very lucky it have such wonderful support.”

If you would like to help the Lawrence County Humane Society & Animal Shelter, call 606-673-4509 or 606-483-2959. Monetary donations are very much appreciated, as well as food, supplies, and volunteers.
