Rad Dads Apply Finishing Touches to Revitalized Head Start Playground

Members of Louisa Head Start’s Dad Bod Squad gathered on Monday, October 3rd to put the finishing touches on the preschool’s playground revitalization. Mulch (of the cushioning rubber variety) was spread, weeds were eaten (figuratively), kudzu was cut, and rough edges were sanded down. The rad dad’s participating included Eric Dotson, Bobby Cantrell, and Austin Hughes (pictured above, L to R, with Louisa Head Start Family Advocate Ross Compton).

“We’ve got an amazing group of dad’s/father-figures this year. Eric, Bobby, and Austin were the ones able to step up this week, but there are a couple dozen others who’ve been generous in offering their time and talents,” said Louisa Head Start Family Advocate Ross Compton. “Knowing they’re there, enthusiastic and ready to pitch in on projects like this, allows us to dream bigger about the opportunities and experiences we can provide for our children and families.”

“My wife and I have 4 kids in 4 different schools in Lawrence County at the moment and I try to be involved at each of them,” said Head Start parent Bobby Cantrell, whose company Cantrell’s CORE Cleaning has done free pressure washing at each school, “This Head Start program is truly a family experience. My wife and I couldn’t be happier with the progress our youngest son has made since enrolling.”

Louisa Head Start Center is part of the Northeast Kentucky Community Action Agency’s Head Start network of preschool centers, which serves Lawrence, Carter, Elliott, and Greenup Counties. Head Start provides free early education services for 3 and 4 year old children, as well as resources for parents and family members. Applications are accepted year-round. For more information, please contact Ross Compton, by phone 606-826-0147, text 502-383-3915, or email ross.compton@nkcaa.net. Follow Louisa Head Start happenings at facebook.com/louisaheadstart.
