WELL KNOWN PRICHARD, WEST VIRGINIA MAN KILLED IN AUTO ACCIDENT ON U.S 52 MONDAY EVENING NEAR FORT GAY

UPDATED: August 24

Reports have identified the person who died in the accident as Herbert Hooser, 40, of Prichard, West Virginia. An automobile accident involving a rollover crash Monday evening on U.S. 52, just north of Route 37 entrance/exit near Fort Gay, West Virginia, claimed the life of a very well known and well-loved Prichard man.

According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, the crash was reported around 7:15 p.m. Monday. it involved a vehicle that rolled over an embankment. There was only one individual in the automobile, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Reports have identified the person who died in the accident as Herbert Hooser, 40, of Prichard, West Virginia.

Hooser, who was a graduate of the 1995 class from Tolsia High School, was a very well known and well loved individual in the Pritchard and Fort Gay areas, and in the general eastern Wayne County community region as well.

Hooser is survived by his wife of 6 and 3/4 years, Samantha, and their four young sons, ages 12, 10, 3, and 1.

Both the Fort Gay Fire Department and Louisa Fire Department responded to the wreck scene.

The accident was the second major wreck in two days on U.S. 52 in the Fort Gay area, as the Fort Gay Fire Department responded to an accident scene at the intersection of US 52 and Horse Creek Monday morning just after 8:30 AM., involving a tractor trailer hitting a passenger vehicle. The Louisa Fire Department was initially called for mutual assistance aid assistance, but that was very soon called off, as the wreck ended not as being as dire as was first reported. Local EMS transported one person to a local hospital.

Since the beginning of July, there have been nearly 10 major automobile and/or motorcycle/ATV wrecks on or very near U.S. 52, in and around the Fort Gay area, leaving more than over a dozen individuals seriously injured in those accidents.

UPDATE:

Herbert Hooser was a Tri-River Transit Authority driver and on duty driving a bus when he wrecked.

According to West Virginia Department of Transportation officials Hooser had dropped all of his passengers at their destinations before the crash.

Wayne County Sheriff’s deputies say Hooser apparently drifted off the road, but that the cause of the accident is still under investigation.

The Tri River Transit Authority is a public bus transportation system that transports citizens in Boone, Lincoln, Logan and Wayne counties.
