Sheriff Rick Thompson stated that the WCSD Drug Enforcement Unit arrested Clifford ‘Cliff’ Smith, of Prichard, this evening after a drug investigation in Prichard.
Sheriff Thompson stated that Clifford attempted to elude members of the WCSD Drug Enforcement Unit in a vehicle and then on foot. Members of the WCSD Drug Enforcement Unit took Cliff in custody behind his residence. Members of the WCSD Drug Enforcement Unit located Crystal Methamphetamine that Clifford threw during the incident. Clifford is charged with Felony possession of Methamphetamine, Obstruction x 2, Reckless driving, No insurance, defective equipment, improper registration, and no seat belt.
Smith was on home confinement as a condition of bond for pending felony Crystal Methamphetamine charges.
Sheriff Thompson stated that Sherry Preece, of Huntington, was arrested by the US Marshals Cuffed Task Force today for warrants issued after an investigation by the WCSD Drug Enforcement Unit in Fort Gay. Sherry is charged with Delivery of a Controlled Substance (Oxycodone), Possession with Intent to Deliver (Oxycodone), and Conspiracy to Distribute Oxycodone.
Sheriff Thompson stated that more arrests are expected in this investigation.
