A BOYD COUNTY STOLEN CAR CASE LEADS TO A DRUG BUST AT MOTEL: BRANDON S. CASTLE, 32, OF LOUISA, KY., WAS ARRESTED FOR DRIVING A STOLEN CAR, WHICH THEN LED TO THE DISCOVERY OF MOTEL ROOM HE VISITED AND ENDED WITH THE ARRESTED OF JULIE A. WATSON, 47, OF ASHLAND, KY., ON DEALING OF METH AND ANOTHER DRUG, ALONG WITH POSSESSING A DRUG PIPE

What started as an investigation into a stolen car case ended up leading to the arrest of a Lawrence County man for the auto theft, which then led to an unexpected drug bust at a well-known seedy motel where the stolen car was parked.

According to the Ashland Police Department, it happened on Tuesday evening, January 31, in the eastern part of Ashland

Police were on the hunt for a stolen Chevy Cruze when they received reports that a man had parked it at the Moose Lodge and went inside, court records show.

When officers caught the man walking down the street, they confronted him and asked if he had just left the Moose Lodge, records show.

The man said yes and he admitted to driving the Chevy Cruze, which was reported stolen the night before, according to police.

Police discovered the man also paid a visit to a room at the Winchester Inn, an area well known for various criminal activities, according to court records.

Officers went to and knocked on the motel room door, and a woman answered; and in their plain view, zthe officers saw digital scales and a small bag of suspected meth, an arrest citation stated.

The woman said she smoked meth about once a week and turned over the drugs, $140 in cash and some Suboxone strips, Boyd County records showed.

While officers spoke with the woman, her phone kept sounding with text messages. An officer asked the woman if he could read her messages and she agreed to it, records show.

The texts were from customers looking to score drugs, court records show.

Brandon S. Castle, 32, of Louisa, KY., was booked in connection with the stolen car on a single count of:

*RECEIVING STOLEN PROPERTY $10,000 OR MORE.

Brandon Castle is being held at the Boyd County Detention Center in Catlettsburg, KY. on a $5,000 bond.

Julie A. Watson, 47, of Ashland, KY., was arrested and booked on the charges of:

*TRAFFICKING IN CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE, 1ST DEGREE, 1ST OFF – (< 2 GRAMS METHAMPHETAMINE), *POSSESSION CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE, 3RD DEGREE, 1ST OFFENSE – (< 20 D.U. DRUG UNSPECIFIED), *DRUG PARAPHERNALIA – BUY/ POSSESS.
