Kentucky woman’s disappearance is subject of second National TV show

A second cable network specializing in true-crime stories will air an episode this month on the investigation into the disappearance of Crystal Rogers.

The Investigation Discovery channel announced Monday that this coming Sunday’s episode of “On the Case” with Paula Zahn would focus on the missing Bardstown woman.

It airs 10 p.m. EDT Sunday on Investigation Discovery, available on Bardstown Cable’s expanded basic service on channel 77 and in high-def at 677.

A 94-second video trailer included with the announcement shows Zahn interviewing family members including Rogers’ mother and sister, as well as Jonathan Snow, the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office detective investigating her disappearance.

“Do you think she ever left the farm that night?” Zahn is shown asking Snow at one point.

“I think she left the farm, yes,” Snow answers.

“Dead… or alive?” Zahn asks.

“I don’t know,” Snow replies.

Police have said they believe Rogers was last known to have visited the family farm of her boyfriend at the time, Brooks Houck. He told investigators Rogers returned with him from the farm on the night of July 3, 2015, and he last saw her when he went to bed that night. He said she was on her phone playing video games. When he awoke the next morning, he said, she was gone. The Nelson County Sheriff’s Office, which is working the case, has named Houck as a suspect in Rogers’ disappearance.

The farm was searched at least twice during the investigation, as well as several other properties connected to the family.

Clips from the video indicate there will be re-enactments interspersed between interviews. Some shots from video include pans across farming implements while ominous music plays and another showing a shovel dragging along the ground.

Airing its episode Sunday gives Discovery a jump on its chief competitor, Oxygen Network, which is set to air the first two of a six-hour series on Rogers starting at 8 p.m. EDT Saturday, Aug. 11.

“On the Case” was launched in 2009 and describes itself on its Facebook page as “Paula Zahn presents intense interviews and first person accounts to uncover the truth.” Zahn is a former journalist and anchor on Fox News and CNN, and ABC and CBS News earlier.

“In each episode of ‘On the Case,’ Zahn tracks the real-life drama of each story by featuring the personal points of view of the people closest to the case, including exploring the motivation and thought processes of the men and women responsible for these crimes,” it states.
