ASHLAND, Ky. – Workforce Solutions at Ashland Community and Technical College proudly had over 120 CDL students complete the program for the 2023-2024 school year. Three of which include incarcerated students that have completed the course through ACTC’s Workforce Solutions partnership with the prison that allows those who are rapidly approaching release to get their certification through the CDL program.

Approximately one dozen incarcerated students have completed the course over the last few years, with 15-20 more anticipated over the next year.

“We are very proud of our students who have completed the CDL program this year,” shared Chris Boggs, ACTC New and Expanding Business and Industry Project Coordinator. “These students are now equipped with the skills they need for a successful, high-wage career.”

ACTC proudly recognizes the following students that have completed the CDL program since January 1, 2024:

Alan Artrip, Billie Bayless, Blake Wauk, Brain Caplinger, Braxton Tackett, Brian Dingess, Caleb Woods, Camron Cremeans, Chris Adkins, Chris Isaacs, Cody McGirr, Corey Kelsey, Dakota Johnson, David Garris, Ethan Applewhite, Gabe Dearfield, Gage Meek, Isaac Lucas, Jacob Gedeon, Jacob McGinnis, Jacob Steele, Jacob Thomas, James Dean, Jason Vance, John Galloway, Jonathan Wagoner, Joseph Williams, Josh Green, Joshua Lusby, Kaden Wilson, Kevin Hill, Kevin Lester, Kyle Wilks, Lauren Adams, Lendsey Chapman, Levi Waddle, Luke Goforth, Mason Frazier, Nathan Cremeans, Peyton Murphy, Ricky Underwood, Russell Duncan, Ryan Atkins, Ryan Browning, Ryan Suttles, Satpreet Singh, Seth Edmoundson, Steven Pauley, Terrence Burns, Thomas Eklund, Timothy Slone, Tony Therkildsen, Tre Rigsby, Tristen Johnson, Zack Slone, and Bradon Thomas.

The CDL program at ACTC is designed for individuals with little or no commercial driving experience. The program includes all the learning tools needed to pass the Class A CDL driver’s test. Day and evening courses are available. The day classes run for 4 weeks whereas the evening classes run for 8 weeks. New classes begin every other Monday.

Obtaining a CDL through ACTC’s four-week course offers a high reward of a high livable wage career.

“There are more and more local opportunities these days that allow drivers to be home every night,” Boggs continued.  “There is much more available than the traditional jobs on the road.”
