Not Your Typical Bake Sale

The Fort Gay Area Woman’s Club recently held an online bake sale-auction style.  The bake sale auction is a new take on the usual way to host the event.  The event ran from November 12th until November 19th.  Twila Ratliff, the club President, explained how the event worked.  The club created a public event page on Facebook and posted pictures of the items that were to being auctioned off.  To gain attention, they sent out invites and asked others to share their page.  The event ended up having over 75 participants or people who responded to the page.

This year the club had 20 items to auction off, including pumpkin pies, banana bread, strawberry pies, pumpkin cookies, chocolate pies, and more. Most of the items are made by the members and donated to the auction.  This year a few things were from Bob Evans.

During the event, pictures of the desserts were posted, and people had until midnight on the last day to place bids.  Twila said that this was the second year of hosting the online bake sale auction and it seemed to be doing just as good as the previous year.

She said, “It’s fun watching everyone bidding on the ‘best’ dessert”.  Some of the bidding went as high as $25.00 for a few items.  Whenever the event is over, she notifies the winner of each item.  The desserts are all made fresh and delivered over the next few days.

The goal of the auction is to help raise money for the scholarship that the club gives to one Tolsia High School senior girl.  Twila stated that all the proceeds of this auction will go directly towards the yearly $500 scholarship.

The Fort Gay Area Woman’s Club helps the community all year long.  The club meets once a month.  Twila said that Covid definitely slowed them down, but they are slowly making a comeback.  She encourages others to join.  If anyone is interested, please contact her at twilamarie@hotmail.com.

Twila would like to thank all who participated in the auction.  She said that it wouldn’t be possible without the help of all club members and those who purchased the baked goods.
