2016 TRICK OR TREAT set for Saturday, October 29

Halloween cover LOUISAThe Louisa City Council met for a special meeting Tuesday, September 27, 2016. Those in attendance were members Ronald Cordle member, Mitch Castle member, Lisa Schaeffer member, Tom Parsons member, Mayor Harold Slone, Greg Fugitt Police Chief and Eddie Preston Fire Chief.  The meeting was called to order after the pledge and prayer.

Tuesday night’s special meeting addressed the following  issues pending in the city.

*  A motion was made by Rick Cordle with second by Lisa Schaeffer with all in agreement, to approve the planning and design loan and the engineering and design loan for the sewer rehab project with the recommendation to build the engineering portion of the project into the first phase. Any engineering firm would be allowed to send in their credentials to be in the running for the job bid.

Total costs are estimated to be $356,000 which includes the $95,000 camera project. Once the problems have been identified the engineering phase would tell the city what needs to be done to correct the problems.

*  The 2016 tax rate was approved and set to the compensating rate. Motion made by Mitch Castle and second by  Ronald Cordle. The rate is the same as last year.  An ordinance relating to the valuation and taxation of property withing the City of Louisa by Bud Adams was also approved.

*  Motion made by Mitch Castle and second by Lisa Schaeffer to get out of the rental contract with Unifirst for uniforms for the city workers.  The city agreed to purchase shirts, boots, a hoodie, winter coat, rain gear, and safety equipment for the workers. The workers would provide their own blue jeans because jeans are not considered as part of any uniform.

*  Motion made by Ronald Cordle and second by Mitch Castle to approve  a contract for grant writer, Barbara Ross, a grant source professional to write a request for a FEMA grant for the Louisa City Fire Department. Her fees would be $700.00 and if the grant was approved up to no more than 8% of the grants value not to exceed $3500.  She has been successful in writing grants for other fire departments in the area, Mayor harold Slone said.  The money would be spent on updating and replacing breathing apparatus for the department.

*  A  motion made by Ronald Cordle and second by Mitch Castle to permit Trick or Treating on Saturday, October 29, 2016 from 6pm to 8pm.

The meeting was then adjourned.
