New Year Begins for Louisa DAR Chapter

New officers served as hostesses for the August meeting with a huge buffet of desserts

New Louisa Chapter DAR Regent, Lynn Courtney, officers, and members began plans for the 2019 -2020 year. The chapter has been busy all thru August, September, and first part of October. The following pictures and post describe some of their activities. The new officers served as hostesses for the August meeting with a huge buffet of desserts. Sheila Kensinger, Sabrina May, and Patricia Hatfield were the September hostesses.

Constitution Week was September 17th thru the 23rd. Members participated in Bells Across America with Bell ringing in front of The Lawrence County courthouse at 10:00 a.m. Also Lynn Courtney and Teresa Pigg displayed a presentation in the lobby of the courthouse. A visit to the schools was planned by Theresa Chaffin but was canceled because of fall break.

Evelyn DeBoard participated in the Genealogy Conference in Paintsville, Ky. At the Ramada Inn September 20th and 21st. She also was a special speaker and displayed DAR books, DVD, and calendars at a designated table.

Theresa Chaffin made Pumpkin rolls and delivered them to the teachers at the Christian School.

Evelyn DeBoard planned a luncheon meeting on October 4th to talk about piecing a quilt for a fund raiser. Each participant would make a block then someone would put it all together. Plans are to have it done by Spring. Anyone interested can get in touch with a member for date and time.

A program was presented in September on the first Librarian (Ella Faye Moore Preston) of Lawrence County by her daughter Nancy Moore Albright, her son Howard Moore and in attendance, her brother John David Preston. Mrs. Moore was Librarian for 38 years.

Next meeting will be Tuesday October 22nd at 6:00 pm in the Cafe of Louisa FBC.
