LOUISA, Ky., — Some new blood will enter local politics as all four candidates for two vacant seats on Louisa City Council are up for election for the first time.
Lawrence Clerk Chris Jobe said Kala Brown, 40, signed up late today (Tuesday) as the 4th candidate for the $100 mo. positions. Ms. Brown joins Madison Arrington, 28, as two opponents for Keith Chafin, 63, and Coty Roe, 33, running for two council seats vacated by Tom Parsons and Ashley Caudill, who resigned last year after moving out of town.
Both Roe and Chafin were appointed by Council and will seek election for the first time as well.
No new faces on the Lawrence Co. BOE as no candidate signed up to run against replacement Susie Ward Rice, who took over the seat vacated when Chairman Heath Preston resigned and left town last year.
The appearance the the ‘yes or no’ vote on the BOE’s plan to raise property taxes by about 12.4% or $300 per year on the average home, should liven up November 7 in Lawrence County. The tax is set to ‘sundown’ after 20 years.
Add the expected highly contested Ky. Governor’s race between incumbent Andy Beshear and Republican challenger Attorney General Daniel Cameron, and a good turnout could be in the works.
You know the board of education is corrupt when no one wants to be on it. No new faces running against the incumbents. It’s the old buddy system.
I’d vote for the first two, simply because the council appointed the second two.
