Update: Coroner identifies man found dead on Paintsville Golf Course

The body of Herbert Blevins was discovered in this pond on the Paintsville golf course. Local officials are wondering why and how the body got in the pond.

PAINTSVILLE, Ky. (WYMT) – Update: 10 a.m., April 22 We now know the name of the man found dead on a Paintsville Golf Course Saturday.

Herbert Blevins

Johnson County Coroner J.R. Frisby identified the man as Herbert Blevins, 29, of Paintsville.

Frisby said the cause of death is unknown at this time.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday, Frisby said.

Original Story

Kentucky State Police say a death investigation is underway after a body was found on the Paintsville Golf Course.

“There was one individual golfer that reported back to the pro shop that there was a body in the pond on the back nine,” said Paintsville Mayor Bill Mike Runyon.

Police say the body of a man was found near one of the course’s ponds on Saturday just after 6 p.m.

“I came over to check it out and unfortunately there was a body in the pond close to hole number 11,” said Scott “Shoes” Hale, Paintsville’s Recreation Manager.

The person was not identified.

“The golf course is cooperating fully with the investigation and we will continue to do so,” says Mayor Runyon.

Officials say the body is being taken to Frankfort for an autopsy on Monday.
