The event brings more than 50 self-taught artists from more than 10 states together to display and offer their work for sale

MOREHEAD, Ky.—Morehead State University’s Kentucky Folk Art Center will present “A Day in the Country 2017” Saturday, June 3, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Morehead Conference Center on First Street in Morehead.

The event is free.

The event brings more than 50 self-taught artists from more than 10 states together to display and offer their work for sale. Visitors to the show can expect to find wood carvings, stone carvings, paintings, and more.

While artists from East Kentucky are the backbone of the event, it’s interesting to include the work of people from other regions and cultural backgrounds“A Day in the Country continues to draw new artists as participants and new collectors from across the nation,” said Matt Collinsworth, KFAC Director. “We’re committed to making the show as diverse and exciting as possible. While artists from East Kentucky are the backbone of the event, it’s interesting to include the work of people from other regions and cultural backgrounds. It makes for a dynamic mix of talent and personalities. We all owe Minnie Adkins a debt of gratitude for starting this event.”

In addition to the folk art fair, KFAC will open a new exhibition Friday, June 2. The exhibition “Bruce New: The Night Is Only a Dream” presents more than 60 works by the Somerset artist. The museum will auction off more 20 works de-accessed from its collection during the event.

“A Day in the Country is always a special day,” added Collinsworth. “The art is great. The people are great. There is no other event quite like this anywhere in our broader region. If you are a collector or merely curious, this is a unique cultural opportunity.”
