PAINTSVILLE, KY. — Four costly turnovers for the Bulldog offense proved costly as Lawrence Co. ( 3-3 ) fell 21-6 to Paintsville ( 4-2 ) on the road Friday night at Memorial stadium.

The Bulldog defense was lights out only allowing the Tigers 144 yards of total offense.

Paintsville scored on their first drive of the game on a Josh McClurg run to go up 7-0. The Tigers made it 14-0 just three minutes later after a LC turnover Paintsville added to the lead when QB Jake Hyden hit McClurg with a short touchdown pass.

Lawrence Co. made it 14-6 on a Noah West 9 yard touchdown scamper to set the Halftime score.

In the second half the two teams traded multiple punts and some untimely turnovers before Paintsville put the game away on a Chris Allen touchdown run with under a minute to go in the ballgame.

The usually sure handed LC quarterback Nick West fumbled the ball on a nice run to the five and then after the Dawgs got the ball back with under 3:00 to go  muffed a snap that was recovered by the Tigers.as the Dawgs were smelling paydirt.

Lawrence Co.  put up 230 yards of offense with West picking up 159 of those. Baden Gillispie finished with 43 yards, Ashton Blankenship 18 and Trevor Young 6 yards. Andrew Tackett caught 1 pass for 4 yards.

Lawrence Co. will begin District play next Friday when they travel to Inez to face Sheldon Clark ( 2-4 ) who lost to Belfry 48-8 last night.

Lawrence Co. Head Coach Alan Short

COACH’S COMMENTS

“… Our Defense was really good tonight and have us so many chances to win the ball game and we just couldn’t capitalize.”

“… We missed some opportunities on offense and I feel like we are just as good or better then Paintsville. Not taking anything away from them because they are a quality football just like us. Anytime you put the football on the ground it’s going to put you at an disadvantage. Like I said give them credit they are very well coached and a disciplined football team.”

“… We will get back to work and set our sights on District play with a trip to Sheldon Clark next Friday night.”
