Ky Opry audio engineer: Robert Daniels

Robert Daniels was born in Mt. Sterling, Ky., raised in West Liberty, Ky., and now resides in Pikeville, Ky. with his wife Shannon.

Robert has been part of the technical staff for Billie Jean Osborne’s Kentucky Opry since the 2005 Christmas season. He has been the audio engineer for the Kentucky Opry and other Mountain Arts Center productions since 2007.

Robert was born in Mt. Sterling, Ky., raised in West Liberty, Ky., and now resides in Pikeville, Ky. with his wife Shannon.

He has also been involved with Jenny Wiley Theatre as a sound engineer/designer, carpenter, lighting technician, actor, and musician on over 30 productions. Throughout the years Robert has been a freelance audio engineer for Branham Productions, bt Media, and local production manager James Ray. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Theater from Morehead State University.

In his small amount of spare time, Robert can be spotted around the area playing banjo, guitar, and lap steel for the Mystery Meat Blues Band, or dobro, fiddle, and bass with the Possum Up A Gump Stump Band. Robert says his favorite part of being a member of the Kentucky Opry is the people and incredible work they do.

He says, “It’s a source of inspiration that every season elevates the work I get to do as a technician and performer. Before I worked with the Opry, I thought I was a good technician and musician. I soon found out that the only knowledge I had was that I knew nothing. There’s a saying among musicians that ‘there’s always someone better than you,’ and it’s true. Chances are, at some point, they’ve been involved with the Kentucky Opry.”

This is Part 9 of Meet Billie Jean Osborne’s Kentucky Opry. Look for more bios each week throughout Spring and Summer. Billie Jean Osborne’s Kentucky Opry Summer Season opens Saturday June 17 at the Mountain Arts Center.
