SMOKEY VALLEY — At approximately 6 a.m. on July 27 2018 a utility truck driven by Robert ‘Bob’ Lyons, 81 from the Mattie area, was traveling East on Route 32 around the Smoky Valley area when an accident took place.
It appears to have been a medical issue causing him to drive off the right side of the roadway just before the Greenbrier area into a culvert, the police report said.
Lyons was pronounced deceased by coroner Mike Wilson at the scene.
Mr. Lyons was accompanied by his dog that was taken to Tri-County Animal Clinic to be checked out and survived the accident.
The accident was investigated by Deputy Dwayne Bowen of the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department.
