CAREER MARTIN COUNTY CRIMINAL CAUGHT IN CROSS COUNTY TO COUNTY POLICE CHASE NEAR LOUISA
SUSPECT WAS INVOLVED IN FELONY VEHICLE CHASE IN JOHNSON COUNTY IN AUGUST; HAS LONG CRIME RAP SHEET MARKING HIS LATEST ARREST AS HIS 31ST IN KENTUCKY IN PAST 17 YEARS, INCLUDING ARMED ROBBERY OF OLD 32 BP GAS STATION IN LOUISA DECEMBER 2014 AND 1ST DEGREE BURGLARY IN LAWRENCE COUNTY IN SEPTEMBER 2015.

After a week of the last few days of October and the first couple days of November with only one arrest in Lawrence County, for a misdemeanor offense, things picked up in a fast pace during the weekend thru Monday, with numerous arrests, capped off by a two county police chase that ended just on the outskirts of the city limits of Louisa late Sunday night.
According to an arrest citation by deputy Michael Housinger of the Lawrence County Sheriff Department, deputy Housinger was dispatched at 9:54 P.M. to the area of state route 1690 that a gray car was fleeing from Martin County deputy David Adams.
Deputy Housinger, along with Louisa Police Department Sergeant Steven Wilburn, were traveling on route 1690, when Housinger came first into contact with the fleeing subject, who tried to ram both his vehicle, as well as officer Wilburn, and also the vehicle of Martin County deputy Adams, who was still pursuing the suspect.
Deputy Housinger turned around and got behind the suspect, who would not stop for officers, as he turned right onto state route 644 then while fleeing, the suspect nearly collided with several oncoming vehicles.
The suspect continued fleeing from the officers, while driving in the center of the highway, by turning left onto state route 3, where the suspect came into contact with Kentucky State Police trooper Bradley Couch’s vehicle and tried to swerve around him and in the process turned back into trooper Couch’s road lane and rammed trooper Couch’s vehicle in the right front and finally came to a stop.
Deputy Housinger made contact with the suspect at the drivers door as he was exiting and Housinger took the suspect to the ground.
That suspect, who was identified as Chad A. Nichols, 36, of Lovely, Kentucky, was found in possession by deputy Housinger of a bottle cap filled with a crystal like substance and a capped syringe.
Chad Nichols was seen by Netcare EMTs and refused medical treatment. Nichols was taken to Three Rivers Medical Center, where Nichols gave implied consent and a blood sample was given: and eventually he was transported to the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center in Paintsville.
Chad A. Nichols was charged with a total of 10 criminal offenses, including 4 felonies, and are listed as the following:
• OPERATING MOTOR VEHICLE UNDER/INFLUENCE ALCOHOL/DRUGS/ETC. .08 (AGGRAVATING CIRCUMSTANCES) 4TH OR >,
• FLEEING OR EVADING POLICE, 1ST DEGREE (MOTOR VEHICLE),
• POSSESSION CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE 1ST DEGREE, 1ST OFFENSE (METHAMPHETAMINE),
• NO REGISTRATION RECEIPT,
• NO REGISTRATION PLATES,
• FAILURE OF NON-OWNER OPERATOR TO MAINTAIN REQUIRED INSURANCE/SECURITY, 1ST OFFENSE,
• WANTON ENDANGERMENT-1ST DEGREE-POLICE OFFICER,
• FAILURE TO WEAR SEAT BELTS,
• CARELESS DRIVING,
• SERVING BENCH WARRANT FOR COURT.
Now the judge can smack him on the hand and send him on his merry way.
