 Woody Six and Sheriff John Kirk

An arrest report released early Wednesday night by the Martin County Sheriff’s Department said a 66 year old Coldwater man who allegedly shot and killed his friend early Wednesday morning, was still armed and resisted being arrested so violently that it took a half a dozen officers to take away his firearm and restrain him.

According to a press release by the Martin County Sheriff’s Department, on Wednesday morning, December 6, 2017, they received a complaint to respond to 117 Davella Road in the Debord community of Martin County in reference to a male subject that had been shot.

When Sheriff John Kirk and his deputies arrived on scene, they observed a man, identified as Elwood “Woody” Six, 66, of Inez, standing beside what appeared to be a man on the ground with blood on his lifeless body. Law enforcement officials would later identify the bloody man as 46 year-old Rodney “Cockeye” Stepp, of Debord.

{ Deputies say Six ignored commands by the officers to show his hands. According to the criminal complaint, Mr. Six told the deputies to “shoot me.” }

The criminal complaint went on to say that Six was taken to the ground by multiple deputies but kept trying to reach for his pockets. A handgun was allegedly removed from his right pants pocket.

Deputies had to force Six’s hands behind his back as he continued to ignore verbal commands to stop resisting. During this altercation, Sheriff John Kirk suffered an unspecified injury and had to be taken to a local med center where he was treated and held for observation.

A Kentucky State Police Post #9 trooper was en route to the scene and arrested Six after the sheriff’s man had him handcuffed.

Six was officially taken into custody by KSP trooper Dustin Thompson and charged with 5 counts of Wanton Endangerment on a Police Officer, along with 1 count each of resisting arrest, menacing and 2nd degree disorderly conduct.

He was and still is lodged in the BSRDC at of 2:00 pm Thursday. No bond information is listed on BSRDC website.

But Six was not, and has not been arrested on any criminal charges related to the shooting death of Rodney Stepp.

Kentucky State Police stated they are investigating the shooting and say that the case will be presented to the Martin County grand jury for any charges against Six pertaining to the shooting.
