DAVELLA, Ky. — The Kentucky State Police are investigating the shooting death of a man in Martin County early Tuesday morning.

According to a press release from the KSP Post #9 in Pikeville, Rodney Stepp, 46, of Debord, was found dead after being shot and killed around 3 A.M. Tuesday morning at a home on on Electra Glide Lane, just off Davella Road, in the Debord area of Martin County.

No other people were reported present or injured at the scene.

Elwood "Woody" Six has been charged with resisting arrest and meacing unrelated to Rodney Stepp's shooting.

The alleged man was present when Stepp was shot has been identified as Elwood “Woody” Six, 66, of Coldwater Rd. near Inez, Ky. who was arrested on unrelated charges by the Kentucky State Police and Martin County Sheriff’s Department, after a brief confrontation with officers, including pointing a gun at one deputy.

The report did not say why police arrested Six at the scene of where Stepp’s body was discovered and booked him four hours after the shooting is alleged to have taken place. The arresting officer of Six was named in the report as KSP trooper Dustin Thompson.

Six was charged with: • WANTON ENDANGERMENT-1ST DEGREE-POLICE OFFICER, • RESISTING ARREST, • MENACING, • DISORDERLY CONDUCT, 2ND DEGREE.

Six has not been charged with the shooting death of Rodney Stepp. According to the KSP, the evidence in the case will be presented to a Martin County Grand Jury for any additional charges pertaining to the shooting.

Rodney “Cockeye” Stepp was a well known and beloved family man and individual throughout Martin County.

Stepp had been living his life to fullest in hours preceding his death, as he had reportedly been Christmas shopping and eating at Chili’s Grill and Bar restaurant with friends (including Elwood “Woody” Six) in the Barboursville, West Virginia area.

Stepp posted a video of himself on Facebook just an hour before he was killed, while shopping at Walmart in Paintsville, Kentucky.

No motive has been reported for the early morning shooting death. It is also not known if there were any witnesses to the events surrounding the shooting.

The KSP report did not say what type of weapon was used or even if any guns were found at the scene.
