Local Girl Scouts and leaders got a surprise visit Monday evening March 13th
when Louisa Mayor Harold Slone dropped in to sign a proclamation for National Girl Scout Week. Mayor Slone said he was proud of all the hard work leaders in the area put into civic groups.
“It makes Louisa and Lawrence County a better place to live,” the mayor said.
According to girlscouts.org Girl Scout Week is celebrated each March, starting with Girl Scout Sunday and ending with Girl Scout Sabbath on a Saturday, and it always includes Girl Scouts’ birthday, March 12th.

on Lock Ave. The local Girl Scouts were there to hear from the shop owner Cassie Burgess about starting businesses that just so happens to be mostly about “girl stuff”.
The Girl Scouts of America is celebrating its 105th anniversary. Founded by Juliette Gordon Low, the organization has been instilling courage, confidence and character in millions of girls so they can use those skills in later life.
By Proclamation of the Mayor, March 12-18, 2017 will be National Girl Scout Week. He encourages all citizens to observe the occasion.

While Girl Scouts is open to all girls from kindergarten through grade 12, anyone over the age of 18 can become a Girl Scout volunteer. Girls cannot experience the positive impact of Girl Scouts without adult volunteers, and each adult who volunteers has the opportunity to make a real difference in the life of a girl. Girl Scout volunteers come from all walks of life; they are men, women, young professionals, retirees, college students, and more. Both girls and adult volunteers can join at any time of the year.
