Lawrence Co. man charged with rape and sodomy of child under 12 will face trial June 14

James Gartin, 53 was in court to face charges of Rape and Sodomy after being accused of Raping a child younger than 12. Troopers began an investigation into the assault after the man became a friend of the family. He is accused of abusing the child over an extended time. He will face trial June 14, 2019, Judge John Preston ruled during last motion hour.

Gartin has pled not guilty.

Sentenced

Justin Brooks, 36 Pled Guilty To an amended Criminal Mischief, 1st degree and was sentenced to

• 180 supervised probation over 1 year and other conditions.

William Chafin, 31 was sentenced to

• 3 years of probation for Possession of a Controlled Substance and Defendant was released.

Donald Dickerson, 33 was sentenced on 3 cases. to

• 3 years supervised probation with other conditions for Possession of Cocaine, 1st Degree,
• 12 months for Possession of a Controlled Substance, 2nd Degree,
• 12 months for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and
• 12 months and 90 days concurrent but consecutive to a separate case.

On a separate case: sentenced to

• 3 years probation on Possession of a Controlled Substance and
• 12 months for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, 2 days concurrent but consecutive to go to the 3rd case,
• for Bail-jumping, sentenced to 1 year probation that is consecutive to the first 2 cases with Persistent Felony Offender being dismissed.

Kaitlin Riner, 25 was sentenced on 3 cases. The defendant Pled guilty and was sentenced to

• 3 years unsupervised probation with a Pretrial on Complicity Possession of a Controlled Substance, concurrent to other cases.

Case #2: defendant was sentenced to

• 1 year concurrent to other cases on Bail-jumping (consecutive on diversion for 4 years of diversion)

Case 3: defendant was sentenced to

• 3 years diversion and unsupervised probation for Complicity Possession of a Controlled Substance, also concurrent to their charges.

Amanda Thomas, 37,   Pled Guilty and will be final sentenced to

• 5 years probation and other conditions on an amended charge of Engaging In Organized Crime.
