MAGOFFIN COUNTY, KENTUCKY MAN ARRESTED AFTER INDICTMENT ON CHARGES STEMMING FROM FALL 2023 BOMB THREATS INCIDENT IN CITY OF SALYERSVILLE

ARRESTING DEPUTIES DURING SUSPECT’S INITIAL ARREST SAID HE APPEARED TO BE ‘TALKING OUT OF HIS HEAD’; ALSO ADMITTING TO THEM HE HAD USED ENOUGH METH TO ‘KILL THE COUNTY’

FEBRUARY 25, 2024 – written by WADE QUEEN

CHRISTOPHER LEE CALDWELL.

A Magoffin County, Kentucky man arrested for making bomb threats in Salyersville, KY. during the fall of last year has now been indicted in the case.

Christopher Lee Caldwell, 33, was arrested back on October 4, 2023, after 911  dispatchers said he called and told them he had placed bombs in the Magoffin County Library, and also the Williams Electric company. They also said Christopher Caldwell also told them he had knocked out his uncle.

When deputies with the Magoffin County Sheriff Office deputies responded to the uncle’s house, they found Christopher Caldwell running, yelling and that he was “talking out of his head” in the street outside. When a deputy asked Chistopher Caldwell how much meth he had used, he allegedly replied, “Enough to kill the county.”

No bombs were found at the library or Williams Electric, and the uncle was found conscious and told deputies there had been no altercation between the two.

Christopher Caldwell was arrested and charged at the time with *TERRORISTIC THREATENING, 1ST DEGREE,   *FALSE REPORT AN INCIDENT TO LAW ENFORCEMENT, *PUBLIC INTOXICATION-CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE (EXCLUDES ALCOHOL), *DISORDERLY CONDUCT, 2ND DEGREE, *MENACING.

The first-degree terroristic threatening charge is a Class C felony, punishable by 5-to-10 years in prison.

Christoper Caldwell was indicted on all those same charges on Thursday morning, February 15. He was subsequently arrested later that Thursday night by deputy William Tyler Lafferty of the Magoffin County Sheriff Office. Christopher Caldwell was transported to, booked, and was lodged in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center in Paintsville in Johnson County, KY., where he remains incarcerated as of Sunday night, February 25.

This latest indictment arrest of Christopher Lee Caldwell, stemming from his October 4, 2023 bomb threats arrest; adds to his already lengthy criminal history, as before October 4, Christopher Caldwell had been arrested 20 times,  on at least 62 felony, misdemeanor, and motor traffic charges, from January 27, 2012 to September 29, 2023; nearly all of those arrests (17 out 20) were in Magoffin County.
